Liquid Guardian of Your Arsenal: Legendary Universal Oil for Steel, Wood, and Leather Versatile Practical Applications This oil is a true multi-tasker, perfect for many areas of your hobby and daily life: Metal Care: It creates an alkaline protective film on steel surfaces, neutralizing acidic hand sweat and preventing corrosion. Excellent for cleaning and preserving blades, daggers, and plate armour parts. Wood Treatment: Regenerates and protects wooden handles, axe shafts, or bows. It highlights the wood grain and protects it from moisture and rot. Leather Maintenance: Softens hardened leather, restores elasticity, and prevents drying out. Ideal for scabbards and straps (Note: light leather may darken). Plastics and Rubber: Keeps synthetic materials supple and prevents rubber seals on your outdoor gear from becoming brittle. Technical Specifications and Properties Property Specification Volume 50 ml / approx. 1.7 fl oz Oil Type Universal, alkaline Composition Biodegradable, medically pure Durability Does not resinify, does not age Capabilities Cleaning, lubricating, preserving, disinfecting A Legacy Born in the Imperial Army The history of this oil dates back to 1904, when the German Imperial Army sought a universal agent for its troops. The requirement was clear: one oil to clean rifles, protect metal equipment, maintain wooden stocks and leather gear, and even serve as an emergency disinfectant for minor wounds. Chemist Dr. Helmut Klever fulfilled this task brilliantly. The name combines ballistic and the Latin oleum (oil). Since then, the formula has remained virtually unchanged, remaining the gold standard for re-enactors and history enthusiasts worldwide. How to Care for Your Equipment Correctly For best results, apply a small amount of oil to a soft, lint-free cloth and gently rub it onto the surface. Thanks to its high capillary action, the oil penetrates even the smallest crevices and micro-cracks in your armour. If you are cleaning a blade after HEMA practice, wipe off any dust first, then apply a thin film of oil. Unlike cheap mineral oils, this one does not resinify (it won't turn into a sticky mess over time). Safety Precautions Avoid using it on suede (brushed leather), as it may permanently alter its appearance. Although the oil is medically pure and food-safe (e.g., for kitchen knife maintenance), it is not intended for internal consumption. Always keep it away from eyes and store it in a dry place out of reach of children.
